EPL: Paul Merson predicts what Xabi Alonso will do at Chelsea

Daily Post about 7 hours 1 mins read

Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, has predicted that Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, will improvise stuff at the club if the Blues secure qualification for next season’s Europa Conference League.

Merson believes Alonso will use the competition to find out more about his squad.

He stated this in his column for Sportskeeda ahead of Chelsea’s final Premier League clash with Sunderland on Sunday.

“The Conference League will give Xabi Alonso the chance to improvise stuff,” Merson said.

“He can use that competition to find out more about his squad. For a new manager at a big club, that is an asset.”

Alonso was recently appointed as Chelsea’s new manager and will take charge of the team after the conclusion of the current season.
