Former Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, has offered his prediction regarding Michael Carrick's future at Old Trafford.
Schmeichel maintained that the former Red Devils midfielder faces no immediate threat to his employment, as the club's leadership remains 'confident' in his capacity as the club's 'future' manager.
Carrick assumed control following Ruben Amorim's challenging tenure, ultimately guiding United to a third-place Premier League finish and securing Champions League qualification in the previous season.
This accomplishment resulted in Carrick receiving a permanent managerial appointment during the summer transfer window, with club executives choosing to invest their confidence in a head coach whose sole prior experience in top management was his time at Middlesbrough.
Nevertheless, the optimism that had developed among United's supporters heading into the current campaign has diminished considerably, given the demanding circumstances Carrick has encountered during his initial two months in charge at Old Trafford.
Furthering United's difficulties, Lisandro Martinez's critical remarks directed at the board following the recent loss to Atletico Madrid have intensified perceptions of an emerging institutional crisis.
Despite encouraging moments demonstrated in the Red Devils' 1-1 stalemate against rivals Leeds during the previous weekend, Carrick's squad currently occupies 13th position in the standings and has failed to secure victory across their last six fixtures in all competitions.
According to United icon Schmeichel, however, Carrick warrants and will likely receive 'patience' as he endeavors to stabilize conditions at the Theatre of Dreams.
'Is he facing immediate dismissal? I believe not,' Schmeichel stated during his appearance on Viaplay following Sunday's encounter at Elland Road.
"I believe the club demonstrates considerable patience and recognizes that reconstruction constitutes a prolonged undertaking.
"They regard him as the future; they shall afford him that patience, they shall provide him with those transfer opportunities, and subsequently we shall observe,' Schmeichel continued.
"Following perhaps one or two additional transfer windows, we can subsequently evaluate whether he encounters heightened pressure beyond the customary expectations placed upon a Manchester United manager."
