EPL: Schmeichel names 3 players that caused Man United’s 2-0 loss to Hull City

Daily Post about 4 hours 2 mins read

Manchester United legend, Peter Schmeichel, has named three players who were the primary reasons for the Red Devils’ defeat to Hull City on Saturday.

Michael Carrick and his team faced a challenging return to Premier League action, as goals from Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy secured a huge victory for the Tigers.

In his post-match analysis of the goals, Schmeichel initially pointed to Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven as the main offenders.

Regarding the build-up to the first goal, Schmeichel criticised Dorgu for failing to block the first ball into the area after losing focus at the front post.

Heaven, who was positioned at the back post, was also criticised for allowing Oli McBurnie to get the better of him before Ajayi scored.

Schmeichel said on Premier League Productions: “Observe Dorgu at the front post; he is not even watching the player taking the corner kick. At that precise moment, he loses focus and lacks the capability to block the first ball.

“And naturally, Ayden Heaven at the back post. He allows [Oli] McBurnie to get behind him. That is unacceptable. That is not how one should defend; one must be more assertive.”

Schmeichel then placed the blame on Luke Shaw for Mendy’s goal, expressing disappointment that Shaw played everyone else onside due to his lapse in concentration at a critical moment.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper emphasised that an experienced team and its players should not be making such errors.

He added: “It is the complete lack of concentration from Manchester United that disappoints me the most. I singled out Luke Shaw. Luke Shaw is two yards behind everyone else, putting everyone else onside. He should not be in that position. He was deceived by the dummy.

“If he stayed up there, he would be either offside or it would have gone out for a goal kick. That’s a disappointment for me, that an experienced team like that makes mistakes like that.”

Manchester United will face another newly promoted side, Ipswich Town, on Sunday, August 30, at Old Trafford.
