Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, believes Liverpool will be regarded as contenders for the Premier League title if they defeat Arsenal on Sunday.
The Reds have won five games in a row in all competitions since they lost 3-0 to Manchester City.
Last weekend, Andoni Iraola's side beat Brighton, to close in on the top four spots.
Liverpool will now look to gain more ground on the top two when they host defending champions Arsenal at Anfield.
Shearer has now said that the team in third place could become a challenger for the title, depending on how Manchester City's appeal against the guilty verdict goes.
He said: "Now, whatever happens with Man City, whenever it happens, I guess the team in third position would also have to think, well, if that does happen to City, then we’ve got to be ready.
"So, I think it’s a big opportunity for Liverpool to throw themselves into that talk if they get the right result this weekend."
