EPL: Teddy Sheringham snubs Haaland, names best striker in England currently

Daily Post 1 day 2 mins read

Former England and Manchester United striker, Teddy Sheringham, has asserted that Manchester City forward Erling Haaland is not the best striker in the Premier League.

He said that Liverpool’s Alexander Isak holds that distinction.

Since his transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City in 2022, Erling Haaland has demonstrated exceptional performance.

He has accumulated 169 goals across 205 appearances in all competitions for the Sky Blues throughout his time. His Premier League tally exceeds 100 goals, and he is progressively approaching the scoring record established by club legend Sergio Agüero.

Although Sheringham acknowledged his respect for the Norwegian forward, he maintained that Liverpool’s Alexander Isak represents the league’s best striker.

Furthermore, he expressed his desire to witness the Swedish forward secure the Premier League Golden Boot award this season.

He told Hajper via Metro: “He was obviously not right last season, but the whole situation at Liverpool was wrong, even down to playing two centre-forwards, and it just didn’t work for anyone.

“For me, he’s the best striker in the Premier League. He is phenomenal. I’d like to see him win the Golden Boot this year, and not just to beat Erling Haaland but for the way that Isak plays the game, and how hungry he is for goals.”

Sheringham subsequently noted that Isak’s demeanour has evolved positively following a challenging inaugural season at Liverpool.

He added: “I like his demeanour on the pitch. He wants to score goals, and he can score goals, and his goals against Ipswich Town were fantastic. That should get the rest of the Premier League worried this season. I love it. He looks back to his very best, sharp shooting, getting it out of his feet and… bang, goal!”

Haaland and Isak will have the opportunity to compete directly against one another following the international break. Manchester City will visit Merseyside to face Liverpool in a highly anticipated encounter.
