Former Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra has predicted the outcome of the club’s next Premier League match against Ipswich Town.
He expressed confidence in the Red Devils’ ability to bounce back following their opening-day loss to Hull City.
He said his former team would “destroy” Ipswich this weekend.
After a thrilling end-of-season revival under Michael Carrick, United supporters were filled with optimism as the club qualified for the Champions League for the first time since the 2023/24 season.
However, that optimism swiftly turned into frustration and disappointment when Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scored two unanswered goals, securing all three points for Hull City in their return to the Premier League against United.
Despite dominating possession with 71 per cent, the Red Devils could only manage five shots on target, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes all thwarted by Konstantinos Tzolakis at the MKM Stadium.
Carrick’s squad now faces a prime opportunity to respond against another newly promoted team, Ipswich on Sunday afternoon. They will be eager to rectify their mistakes after a dismal start to the season.
Ipswich, on the other hand, may be bracing for another upset, having triumphed in their first two matches against Sunderland and Leicester in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, respectively.
When asked for his prediction during a livestream on Kick, former United full-back Evra stated: “I believe Manchester United will destroy Ipswich.
“However, I anticipate they will struggle in the first half before ultimately defeating Ipswich 3-1.
“I do not foresee United losing this second match, but it is indeed a challenging and precarious game, so I do not wish to sound arrogant.
“When I mention a 3-1 victory, it is because if we were to draw, just imagine the uproar.”
Evra noted that the level of “noise” surrounding United’s victories or defeats highlights the club’s stature as a “big club.”
