EPL: ‘They’re vulnerable’ – Theo Walcott reveals why Arsenal won’t win title this season

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Former England international Theo Walcott has identified Arsenal’s vulnerability in the Premier League title contention as their left-wing position.

He contends that Christos Tzolis does not represent an adequate replacement for the departed Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli.

During an appearance on talkSPORT Drive, Walcott expressed reservations regarding Tzolis’s performance and questioned whether the winger possesses sufficient quality for a starting role.

While acknowledging the player’s potential in training environments, Walcott noted that this has not translated to on-pitch performances.

He said, “They maintain some vulnerability in away fixtures. I appreciate Tzolis’s qualities, but based on my observations in away matches, I have not been particularly impressed. Performing effectively away from home presents considerable difficulty.

“Certain players demonstrate excellence in home settings or during training sessions, yet struggle to deliver results away when circumstances demand it most. Rather than selecting him, the club should deploy an alternative player—someone who will demonstrate commitment to the team’s objectives or provide tactical variation.”

Walcott further suggests that Arsenal will prioritise UEFA Champions League success this season, following their absence from the competition in the previous campaign.

He continued, “I believe they are outstanding and possess all the necessary components to maintain their position. However, success will prove challenging, as they will aspire to capture the Champions League title.”

Arsenal currently occupies second position in the Premier League standings following a defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion prior to the international break. They remain three points behind Manchester City, who have achieved five consecutive victories in their opening five matches.
