Former Aston Villa captain, Gabriel Agbonlahor, has publicly criticized Matheus Cunha for his underwhelming attacking performance at Manchester United this season, noting that the Brazilian’s pride is beyond his performance on the pitch.
The former Aston Villa striker has also taken issue with football supporters who have voiced concerns regarding Marcus Rashford’s performances while overlooking Cunha’s shortcomings.
He emphasized that Cunha must enhance his attacking output, stating via talkSPORT, “Why aren’t they singled out? Cunha, Manchester United fans, and football fans always look at what Marcus Rashford is doing. Oh, he hasn’t scored yet.
“Cunha: one assist, zero goals in four games. I’m looking at him like your ego is up there, but you aren’t really doing it.”
Cunha has served as the Red Devils’ first choice attacking option ahead of Benjamin Sesko since the beginning of the 2026-27 season. Nevertheless, he has been unable to score in four Premier League matches.
The forward’s only goal during the new season was registered against Sabah Baku in Manchester United’s opening fixture of the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League campaign.
Cunha’s capacity to lead the offensive line is under scrutiny as the Red Devils have suffered three defeats across six matches in all competitions this season.
The Brazilian contributed 10 goals and four assists across 35 appearances during his first season at Old Trafford in last term.
