Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has charged all civil servants in the state to own a garden where they would be planting vegetables.
Uzodimma disclosed this during the general assembly of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, in the state, where he admitted that things are not easy for Nigerians.
According to the governor: "While growing up, we used to have gardens. As a young man, my mother never goes to any market to buy vegetables. By the time that the food will be up, she will just cross behind the house, cut vegetables, harvest tomatoes, and the food is ready for consumption.
"So, as we struggle to do other scientific things that will boost the economy, what you are being handed today, if you look at the size, it's like a Mustard seed.
"In fact, I going to talk with young professionals. I want every civil servant to own a garden and be able to pluck our vegetables, tomatoes, and onions to cook.
"If you are here in Imo only because food is ready, it's not so; food will be ready and we are aware whether you like it or not things are not easy for our people, we must be deliberate about it."
