Ex-Akwa Ibom Varsity SUG President Dies At NYSC Camp After Fake Medication

InformationNG about 2 hours 2 mins read

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed sadness over the reported death of Etimbuk Daniel, the immediate past Students’ Union Government (SUG) president of Akwa Ibom State University, who reportedly died at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Enugu State.

Daniel’s death has sparked concerns among students, with troubling allegations emerging about the circumstances surrounding his final moments at the camp.

According to a statement shared by BABTEE, the former student leader reportedly complained of a headache and was given medication. However, his condition allegedly worsened after taking the drugs.

The statement claimed that Daniel later requested to be taken to a hospital as his health deteriorated. Unfortunately, the approval reportedly needed for his transfer was delayed, and he allegedly died before he could receive the medical attention he needed.

Adding to the concerns, the statement further alleged that a doctor subsequently identified the medication administered to him as fake. This claim has raised serious questions about the treatment he received and the events leading up to his death.

Reacting to the incident, the statement described the development as disturbing and called for a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding Daniel’s death. It also stressed the need to establish whether negligence or any form of wrongdoing contributed to the tragedy.

The incident has since drawn attention to concerns about medical care at NYSC orientation camps, particularly the response to emergencies and the procedures corps members must follow to access treatment outside camp facilities.

As calls for answers grow, many will be looking to the relevant authorities to investigate the allegations, clarify what happened, and ensure that any identified lapses are properly addressed.

For now, the circumstances surrounding Etimbuk Daniel’s death remain a source of concern, with calls for transparency and accountability taking centre stage.
