The former Oyo State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Ahmed Ajibola, popularly known as General H, has resigned from the group, citing differences over the direction of its state structure.
Ajibola, however, said his resignation had not affected his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including the President’s bid for re-election in 2027.
He disclosed his resignation in a statement posted on Instagram on Friday, while also denying reports circulating on social media that he had been removed as the movement’s Oyo State coordinator or made derogatory remarks about President Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu and other leaders of the organisation.
Ajibola described the reports as “false, malicious and misleading”, insisting that he was neither dismissed, suspended nor removed from office, but voluntarily resigned after declining two separate appointments offered to him by the movement.
According to him, he was first appointed Coordinator, Directorate Affairs, at the state level by the Oyo State Director on August 1, 2026, before receiving another appointment from the national leadership on August 5 as Coordinator, Stakeholder Engagement, South-West Structure.
He said he rejected both appointments before subsequently tendering his resignation from the movement.
“If I had truly been sacked, where is the letter of dismissal, termination, or removal from office? None exists because none was ever issued,” he said.
In his resignation letter addressed to the national leadership of the movement, Ajibola expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Oyo State but said he had decided not to accept the new positions offered to him.
He maintained that his decision was based on principle rather than resentment.
“My decision is based not on bitterness, but on principle,” he said.
Ajibola said he believed leadership should be founded on “fairness, loyalty, transparency, competence and mutual respect”, adding that developments within the Oyo State structure had made it difficult for him to continue with the movement “in good conscience”.
He said he had become increasingly dissatisfied with the direction of the movement at the state level, particularly under its newly appointed leadership.
“Certain actions and decisions have fallen short of the values that inspired many of us to dedicate our time, energy and resources to the growth of this movement,” he said.
However, Ajibola drew a distinction between his departure from the City Boy Movement and his political support for President Tinubu, insisting that his resignation should not be interpreted as a rejection of the President or his administration.
“Let me, however, make one thing abundantly clear: my resignation from the City Boy Movement does not in any way diminish my support, admiration and loyalty to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” he said.
He said he remained committed to promoting the achievements of the Tinubu administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda, while pledging to continue supporting the President’s re-election bid in 2027.
“My conviction remains unchanged, and my support remains unwavering,” he added.
The former Oyo coordinator also denied allegations that he had attacked or made derogatory comments about President Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, the Director-General or other members of the movement’s national leadership.
He challenged those behind the allegations to produce evidence to substantiate their claims, describing the accusations as part of what he called a false narrative surrounding his resignation.
Ajibola urged members of the public to disregard the allegations, insisting that he did not leave the organisation out of hostility towards its national leadership.
Reflecting on his time with the movement, he expressed appreciation to members who worked with him across Oyo State and acknowledged their loyalty, commitment and sacrifices.
“I believe that positions may be given and positions may be taken away, but character, integrity and service remain permanent.
“Therefore, I have chosen to step away with my dignity intact, my conscience clear and my gratitude unwavering towards those who believed in me and stood beside me throughout this journey,” he said.
Ajibola said he remained proud of the achievements recorded with members of the movement during his tenure and thanked them for their support and sacrifices.
