The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Edwin Ogbegbagha, has urged residents of Sardauna Local Government Area to provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending those responsible for acts of violence in the area.
Ogbegbagha made the call on Wednesday during an on-the-spot assessment of communities affected by the recent crisis, in which lives were lost and property destroyed.
The assessment was conducted alongside the Brigade Commander of the Nigerian Army and other security personnel as part of efforts to obtain first-hand information on the situation and engage relevant stakeholders on measures to restore lasting peace and security.
During the visit, the security team held extensive discussions with stakeholders on strengthening security operations, improving intelligence gathering and ensuring sustained protection of lives and property.
The commissioner assured residents that security agencies were working jointly and remained committed to restoring peace and preventing further attacks in the affected communities.
He disclosed that additional security personnel and enhanced aerial surveillance by the Nigeria Police Air Wing would be deployed in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to intensify security operations across the affected areas.
Ogbegbagha urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, assuring them that the police and other security agencies were taking necessary measures to restore normalcy.
He also appealed to the Taraba State Government, traditional institutions, community leaders and members of the public to strengthen their support and cooperation with security agencies.
According to him, lasting peace could only be achieved through collective responsibility, effective information sharing and sustained collaboration among all stakeholders.
The commissioner reiterated the commitment of the Taraba State Police Command to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property, assuring residents that the command would continue to work with sister security agencies and communities to ensure peace and security across the state.
