The candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, for Ondo Central in the forthcoming National Assembly election, Sunday Falae, has disclosed that the incumbent senator representing the district has not represented the people adequately.
While disclosing that his decision to contest was driven by a series of complaints by constituents across the six local governments in the district, Falae maintained that there is urgent need to give the people a voice at the National Assembly.
The former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, stated that a situation where constituents feel abandoned by their current representative calls for swift replacement at the polls in 2027.
Speaking at the weekend in Akure, the state capital, Falae noted that the core issue is not personal ambition but the urgent need to bring representation to the grassroots, focusing on opportunities that constituents can directly feel.
Falae emphasised that his departure from the APC was in response to what he described as the gap between campaign promises and legislative performance, particularly the disconnect between the incumbent senator and the people.
He also frowned at past empowerment programmes in the district as poorly tailored, citing an instance where a grinding machine given to a woman was sold off because she lacked the means to transport it home.
Falae stressed that his decision to pitch tent with APM was informed by the desire for a Yoruba successor to complete the remaining years of the presidency, noting that the APM’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, fits such a task.
The APM candidate for Ondo Central Senatorial District described his campaign as a “Rainbow Coalition” of supporters from various parties, including the PDP in Ondo Central, which he said did not field a senatorial candidate and has adopted him.
