The family of the late Afenifere leader and elder statesman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has announced burial arrangements for the Yoruba leader, who died at the age of 100.

In a statement signed by Dr Taiwo O. Fasoranti on behalf of the family, the Christian wake-keeping service will hold on Wednesday, December 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at his residence within the Omolere Nursery and Primary School Compound.

The funeral service and interment will take place on Thursday, December 17, at St. David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure, Ondo State, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at the church cemetery, while a reception will be held at his residence afterwards.

An outing and thanksgiving service is scheduled for Sunday, December 20, at St. David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure, at 10:00 a.m.

The family called for prayers and the presence of well-wishers as they honour the memory of the late elder statesman.

Fasoranti’s death was announced by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Tuesday, October 20. The governor described him as a revered elder statesman whose life was marked by service to Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.

Fasoranti, who celebrated his 100th birthday in May, was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle and a leading voice in Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation.

President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders paid tribute to him following his death, highlighting his contributions to public service, democratic governance and the development of the Yoruba people.
