FCT Police arrest woman for killing own newborn baby boy with razor blade

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohanna, for allegedly killing her newborn baby with a razor blade in Abuja.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Adeh said the command received a distress call on October 4, 2026, about the discovery of an abandoned baby in a bush around the Jabi area of the FCT.

She explained that operatives of the Jabi Police Division were immediately deployed to the scene, where they recovered the lifeless body of a male infant with deep wounds on the throat and abdomen.

According to her, the baby was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.

Adeh said following the recovery, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered a manhunt for the person responsible for the killing.

She said with the assistance of members of the community, police operatives traced and arrested Yohanna, a native of Riyam in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, who resides in the Daki-Biu/Jabi area of the FCT.

The PPRO said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was the mother of the deceased infant and had given birth to the baby inside her room on October 3, 2026.

She alleged that Yohanna subsequently used a razor blade to inflict the fatal injuries on the newborn.

According to Adeh, the suspect confessed to committing the act, stating that she did so out of hatred for the baby’s father.

The police spokesperson said the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

She added that the Commissioner of Police commended members of the community for assisting the police in identifying and apprehending the suspect.

Sanusi also condemned the incident, describing it as a grave and unacceptable violation of the sanctity of human life.

The CP assured the public that the command would conduct a thorough investigation and charge the suspect to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
