ABUJA — Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested a woman, Mrs Beauty Monday, for allegedly pouring boiling water on her neighbour during an argument over the use of a shared compound space in the Lugbe area of Abuja.
The suspect was subsequently arraigned before a court and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
According to her, the Command received a report at the Lugbe Police Division on September 6, 2026, from a resident identified as Gift Amos, who alleged that she had an argument with her neighbour, Mrs Beauty Monday, on September 4.
Adeh said the argument allegedly resulted in the suspect pouring a pot of boiling water on the victim’s back, causing serious burns and other injuries.
She said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a disagreement over the use of a shared portion of the compound.
“It was established that the victim had moved the suspect’s pot of boiling water from the stove to the portion of the compound allocated to her.
“The action angered the suspect, who subsequently removed the pot from the stove and poured the boiling water on the victim’s back,” the statement said.
The victim, according to the police, is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.
Adeh said the suspect had been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre, with the matter adjourned until September 16, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, called on residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and exercise restraint when resolving disagreements.
Sanusi also urged residents to desist from acts of self-help and avoid resorting to violence during disputes or other challenging situations.
He advised members of the public to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolving conflicts.
The Command further urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
