ABUJA — The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has given Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) under the Metro Area Command a two-week deadline to tackle robbery and other security challenges within the nation’s capital.
The directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, following a security meeting between the police commissioner and the 17 DPOs serving under the Metro Area Command.
The meeting reviewed the prevailing security situation in Abuja and explored strategies for addressing emerging threats across the city.
CP Sanusi expressed concern over a range of security and traffic-related offences, including traffic robbery, vehicle snatching at gunpoint, the activities of “one chance” robbery syndicates, motorists driving against traffic, illegal operations of commercial motorcyclists on major roads, vandalism of public and private property, indiscriminate parking on highways and persistent traffic congestion.
He directed the DPOs to intensify operations and ensure that the identified challenges are significantly reduced within two weeks, warning that failure to comply with the directive would attract sanctions.
The police commissioner also instructed the Metro Area Commander, who supervises the DPOs, to provide effective leadership and ensure strict compliance with the order.
According to him, while efforts would be concentrated on restoring security and order within the city centre, he would personally oversee operations aimed at addressing security challenges in the suburbs.
CP Sanusi stressed that negligence and laxity would not be tolerated, urging officers to remain proactive and committed to protecting residents and visitors in the Federal Capital Territory.
The FCT Police Command also appealed to members of the public to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
Residents were encouraged to report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
The command reiterated its commitment to strengthening security and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Abuja.
