The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has debunked viral reports claiming that it confirmed that almost all young residents of Mararaba, Nyanya and other parts of the FCT have sold their kidneys to organ traffickers.
A Facebook user, Labran Abu Labco, had alleged that the police confirmed that almost all young people residing in Mararaba, Nyanya, Karu and other communities in the nation’s capital have sold their kidneys “in exchange for money”.
The post also alleged that an agent residing in Mararaba has been purchasing human kidneys.
Reacting, the FCT Police Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said it has “neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature”.
The spokesperson added that “no statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the Command”.
The statement urged members of the public to disregard the said publication and refrain from circulating unverified information “capable of causing unnecessary fear, panic and apprehension among residents”.
It, however, encouraged “anyone with information regarding the alleged human organ trafficking, or any other security concern within the FCT, to promptly report the same to the nearest Police Station”.
