FCT police get 14-day ultimatum to chase ‘one chance’ gangs out of Abuja

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has given Divisional Police Officers under the Metro Area Command a two-week deadline to end robbery and other security threats within Abuja city centre.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on June 19, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, the directive was issued during a meeting between the Commissioner of Police and the 17 DPOs serving under the Metro Area Command to review the prevailing security situation and strengthen operational strategies across the command.

The police commissioner expressed concern over several security and traffic-related challenges within the city centre, including traffic robbery, vehicle snatching at gunpoint, the activities of “one chance” syndicates, motorists driving against traffic regulations, commercial motorcyclists operating on major roads, vandalism of public and private property, indiscriminate parking on highways and traffic congestion.

“He therefore ordered the DPOs to end these crimes within two weeks or face the consequences,” the statement said.

According to the command, Sanusi also directed all DPOs and the Area Commander of the Metro Area Command to concentrate their operations on the city centre, while he would personally oversee security challenges in suburban areas of the FCT.

The commissioner further warned against negligence and tasked the Area Commander of the Metro Area Command with providing effective leadership and ensuring compliance with the directives.

The FCT Police Command urged residents to continue supporting security operations by providing timely and credible information to the nearest police division or through the command’s emergency lines.
