FG unveils 11 major economic reforms, promises results

Vanguard Nigeria about 3 hours 2 mins read

ABUJA — The Federal Government has unveiled 11 major economic and financial reforms implemented between May 2023 and December 2025, saying the measures are aimed at addressing longstanding structural challenges and laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth.

The reforms were highlighted by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, during a media briefing on the government’s Reform Scorecard.

According to the government, the measures cover key areas of the economy, including fiscal policy, taxation, foreign exchange, education, infrastructure, labour, energy and capital markets.

It said the reforms were designed to strengthen public finances, improve revenue mobilisation, attract investment, support businesses and enhance Nigeria’s economic resilience.

The government stressed that economic reform was not a one-off event but a continuous process requiring difficult decisions, sustained commitment and transparent reporting.

It said progress had been recorded since the reforms commenced, while acknowledging that significant work remained to be done.

“Transparency and accountability remain central to the reform process. Nigerians deserve to understand what is being done, why it is being done, the results being achieved and the challenges that still lie ahead,” the government said.

It added that the reform process was focused on strengthening the foundations of the economy and creating conditions for sustainable prosperity.

The government is expected to provide detailed information on each of the 11 reforms, including their objectives, implementation and impact on the economy and the lives of Nigerians, as part of an 11-day review of the Reform Scorecard.

The initiative is aimed at providing the public with clearer information on the government’s economic policies, progress made so far and challenges confronting the reform programme.
