Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of fire that ravaged some shops in one of the markets in Oyo town in Oyo State.
The incident occurred at Akunlemu Market in Oyo on Tuesday night.
It was learnt that many shops were affected during the incident.
Goods and household items worth millions of naira were affected by the inferno.
DAILY POST learnt that no casualty was recorded.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
He said, “Upon arrival, the affected shops were already well alight. The fire crew immediately swung into action and successfully brought the fire under control, thereby preventing it from spreading to the remaining shops and other adjoining properties.”
DAILY POST also gathered that properties worth millions of naira were also destroyed as a result of fire that ravaged a hotel in Ibadan, the State capital.
The incident occurred at Abigael Makinde Close, Abayomi area of Ibadan.
The inferno occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
Akinwande, when contacted, noted that no casualty was recorded.
He said, “Upon arrival, the crew discovered that a storey building of four rooms used as a hotel and lounge had already been engulfed by flames and thick smoke billowing from the affected premises.”
Akinwande also confirmed that a tanker carrying some quantities of 45,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, somersaulted at Moniya area of Ibadan.
The incident occurred at a primary health centre along New Moniya Road in Ibadan.
He said, “Upon arrival, it was an FONTO trailer tanker, registration number FKJ 843 XL (LAGOS), loaded with 45,000 litres capacity of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), that swerved off the road into a nearby ditch.”
