LUWERO – Police in Luwero District have rescued a five-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted while on an errand to buy a pancake, following investigations that led to the arrest of several suspects.

The child went missing on the evening of October 28, 2026, in Mabale Village, Luwero Town Council, prompting Police to launch investigations and a search operation to establish her whereabouts.

According to a police statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, preliminary investigations indicate that the girl was allegedly abducted while going to purchase a pancake.

The matter was reported to Police on the same day, triggering efforts to trace the missing child.

On October 29, the child’s parents returned to Police accompanied by a man identified as Ssekanjako Muhammad, who claimed to have seen the girl at the residence of a traditional healer.

Police acted on the information and searched the premises but did not find the child.

However, the traditional healer, a woman found at the premises and Ssekanjako were arrested and detained to assist with investigations.

Police said Ssekanjako’s explanation about how he had established that the missing girl was at the shrine raised suspicion and appeared inconsistent.

He was subjected to further interrogation on October 30, during which he reportedly confessed to abducting the child on October 28.

According to investigators, Ssekanjako disclosed that he had taken the girl to Nkologe Village, where he handed her over to his brother, identified as Musisi Frank.

Musisi allegedly entrusted the child to his mother and wife.

Investigations further established that the claim linking the missing girl to the traditional healer’s shrine was deliberately fabricated to mislead Police and divert attention from the actual circumstances surrounding the abduction.

Acting on the information obtained during interrogation, Police proceeded to Nkologe Village, Nakikota Parish, Luwero Sub-county, where the girl was successfully recovered from Musisi’s residence.

However, Musisi reportedly fled upon seeing the Police officers.

His wife, who was found with the child, and his mother were arrested to assist with the ongoing investigations.

Police have not disclosed the identities of the arrested women or provided details about the child’s condition following her recovery.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the abduction are ongoing, with efforts expected to continue to apprehend the fleeing suspect and establish the possible involvement of other individuals.

The incident highlights the importance of vigilance and timely reporting of missing children as security agencies continue efforts to protect vulnerable members of the community.
