The Headies, Africa’s most anticipated music awards, has released its nominations list ahead of the 18th ceremony, holding this October in Toronto, Canada. The list features 218 nominations spread across 35 categories, celebrating the biggest names and breakout stars who defined African music in the period under review (August 1, 2024 – April 30, 2026).
With this wave of musical excellence is stepping firmly into the spotlight, fast rising artist Fola is leading the charge. With 10 nominations at the 18th Headies, the rising star has announced himself among Africa’s biggest names. His showing signals more than personal recognition—it reflects the growing influence of a new generation of Nigerian artistes shaping Africa’s global sound.
Fola’s nominations span several major categories, including Album of the Year, Best Male Artiste, Digital Artiste of the Year, Best R&B Album, Best Recording of the Year and Next Rated, following the success of his debut album, Catharsis. Omah Lay follows with eight nominations, while Mavo and Wizkid each received seven. Davido and Asake are also among the leading nominees with six nominations apiece.
Ayra Starr and Tiwa Savage lead the female nominees with five nominations each. The 18th Headies, themed “Africa to the World,” is scheduled to be held in Toronto, Canada, on October 25, 2026.
The international staging continues the awards’ effort to position African music on a wider global platform after previous editions were held outside Nigeria.
