Former Mukono LCIII Chairperson Remanded Over Alleged Shs38m Government Job Scam

Watchdog Uganda about 1 hour 2 mins read

A former LCIII chairperson in Mukono District has been charged with corruption and criminal conspiracy over allegations that he and two accomplices defrauded a medical doctor of Shs38 million by promising to secure him a government job.

Sekikubo Mubarak, the former LCIII chairperson of Nakisunga Sub-county, was arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on Monday and remanded until November 4, 2026.

The arraignment was conducted by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), working alongside the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Prosecution alleges that between January and June 2025, Mubarak conspired with Mugerwa Ronald Saaku, a probation and welfare officer for Lugazi Municipality, and Dr Wataba Saadi, who are both still at large, to defraud Dr Mukisa George William of Shs38 million.

According to investigators, the accused and his alleged accomplices falsely represented to Dr Mukisa that they could secure him a government position as a medical officer in Mukono District.

Investigations further established that the suspects allegedly told the job applicant that the money would be used to facilitate members of the Mukono District Service Commission to improperly influence the recruitment process in his favour.

The alleged scheme was intended to secure Dr Mukisa the medical officer position in exchange for an undue advantage, according to the prosecution.

Mugerwa and Dr Wataba remain at large as investigations and efforts to bring them to justice continue.

Mubarak will remain on remand until November 4, when he is expected to return to court.

The charges are allegations, and Mubarak is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law.
