Fortis Healthcare Opens Information Centre in Abuja to Connect Nigerians with Advanced Medical Care in India

New centre aims to make access to specialised treatment in India easier for Nigerian patients and families

A new Fortis Information Centre has been inaugurated in Abuja, creating a local point of contact for Nigerians seeking access to specialised and advanced medical treatment at Fortis hospitals in India.

The Information Centre, inaugurated on 1 October 2026, Nigeria’s Independence Day, is designed to provide patients and families with information, guidance and coordination support for medical treatment in India.

The centre will be powered by GetWellGo, an India-based healthcare consulting company that assists international patients with their medical journey to India.

Located at Suite A0, UYK Hexahub, Balanga Crescent, Garki Area 11, Abuja, the Fortis Information Centre provides a local point of contact for patients and families seeking information and coordination support before travelling to India.

The Abuja centre is intended to serve as a bridge between Nigerian patients and Fortis Healthcare’s network of hospitals and specialists in India. Patients can approach the centre to understand treatment options, obtain medical opinions, receive treatment estimates and coordinate appointments with appropriate specialists.

Distinguished Guests and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

The inauguration ceremony was marked by a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by Mrs. Dabney Shall-Holma OON, MD/CEO, Hubs Maritime Services Ltd, Chairperson, Sealink Implementation, formally opening the Fortis Information Centre in Abuja.

The event was attended by several reputed businessmen, professionals and leading doctors from across Nigeria, reflecting the strong interest and support for strengthening healthcare collaboration between Nigeria and India.

Among the distinguished guests were HRH Emeka Gabriel Umeh, Engr. Sadiq Isa Abubakar, Dr. Iliya Karniliyus Salu, Dr. Emmanuel Sanni, Dr. Lawan Musa Tahir, Dr. Nwankwo Chizoba, Dr. Hauwa’u Bello-Gambari, Dr. Bello A.M., and other prominent members of Nigeria’s business and medical community.

Their presence added significance to the inauguration and highlighted the growing importance of international healthcare partnerships in providing Nigerian patients with access to specialised medical expertise and advanced treatment options.

The inauguration brought together representatives from the healthcare, medical and business communities with a shared objective of creating stronger connections between patients in Nigeria and specialised healthcare services available in India.

About Fortis Healthcare

Fortis Healthcare Limited, an IHH Healthcare group company, is one of India’s leading integrated healthcare providers. Its healthcare network includes hospitals, diagnostic facilities and day-care specialty centres across India. According to Fortis, its current network comprises 36 healthcare facilities across 12 states and union territories, more than 6,000 operational beds and around 400 diagnostic laboratories.

Fortis provides specialised care across a wide range of disciplines, including cardiac sciences, oncology, neurosciences, orthopaedics, urology, gastroenterology, nephrology, haematology and bone marrow transplantation, organ transplantation and robotic surgery.

The organisation also has an established international-patient programme, supporting patients from Africa and other regions with medical consultations, appointments, visa-related assistance, airport transfers, accommodation, interpretation and other aspects of medical travel.

Advanced medical technology

One of the major features of Fortis hospitals is access to advanced medical technology in specialised areas.

In cancer care, MR LINAC technology combines a 1.5 Tesla MRI system with a linear accelerator, allowing clinicians to visualise tumours and surrounding organs during radiation treatment and adapt treatment based on real-time imaging. Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurugram, introduced the Elekta Unity MR LINAC in 2024 as North India’s first MR LINAC.

Fortis also offers Gamma Knife radiosurgery, a highly precise, non-invasive technology used for selected brain tumours and other neurological conditions. The technology uses multiple focused radiation beams directed at a specific target while limiting radiation exposure to surrounding tissue.

The Fortis network also has capabilities in robot-assisted surgery, where surgeons use robotic systems to perform minimally invasive procedures with enhanced visualisation, instrument control and precision. Fortis states that robotic-assisted surgery can offer advantages such as smaller incisions, reduced blood loss and faster recovery in appropriately selected procedures.

Treatment options for Nigerian patients

The Abuja Information Centre will provide information about a broad range of treatments available through Fortis hospitals in India.

These include complex cardiac surgeries and procedures, oncology and cancer treatment, neurosurgery, orthopaedic procedures, urological treatment, gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary procedures, bone marrow transplantation and organ transplantation, among other specialties.

For Nigerians living with sickle cell disease, Fortis has dedicated bone marrow transplantation programmes. Fortis states that bone marrow transplantation may be considered for selected patients with sickle cell disease following detailed medical assessment, disease evaluation and donor matching.

Fortis also provides kidney and liver transplantation services. Its kidney transplant programme includes comprehensive evaluation and transplant care, while its liver transplant programme includes both living donor and deceased-donor transplantation, subject to applicable medical, legal and regulatory requirements.

A local connection to healthcare in India

For many families, travelling overseas for treatment involves much more than selecting a hospital. Understanding the diagnosis, identifying the appropriate specialist, arranging medical records, obtaining a treatment plan, estimating costs, securing a medical visa and organising travel can all be challenging.

The Abuja Information Centre is intended to simplify this process by providing a local point of contact before a patient travels to India.

Through the centre, patients can submit their medical records for review and seek specialist opinions from the Fortis clinical teams in India. Once a patient decides to proceed, the centre can assist with appointment coordination and other aspects of the medical travel process.

GetWellGo, which powers the Abuja Information Centre, will coordinate with patients and Fortis’s international patient teams to facilitate the treatment journey.

Strengthening healthcare links between Nigeria and India

The establishment of the Fortis Information Centre in Abuja represents another step towards strengthening healthcare and medical travel links between Nigeria and India.

The centre is expected to provide Nigerian patients with greater access to information about specialised treatment options available in India, while allowing families to begin their medical journey from Abuja before travelling.

Speaking about the initiative, Nishant Jain, Head of the Fortis Information Centre, Abuja, said the objective is to make the process of exploring treatment options in India more transparent and accessible for Nigerian patients.

“Our objective is to create a reliable bridge between patients in Nigeria and specialised healthcare services in India. Patients should be able to understand their treatment options, receive expert medical opinions and make informed decisions before travelling.”

The Abuja centre will cater to patients seeking treatment across a wide range of specialties and will also work with patients, families, doctors and referral partners who require information about advanced medical care available at Fortis hospitals in India.

With its inauguration taking place on Nigeria’s Independence Day, 1 October 2026, the centre begins its operations with the objective of building stronger healthcare connections between the two countries and helping Nigerian patients explore specialised treatment options beyond their borders.
