ABUJA — Four court cases challenging the candidacy of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, have been discontinued by the respective litigants.
Adeola, who chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriations, is seeking the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.
His Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, describing the development as coming at the commencement of the governorship campaign.
According to Odunaro, the four suits were discontinued voluntarily by the litigants, with the first case withdrawn on August 24, 2026, and the remaining three discontinued on September 7, 2026.
He said the cases were discontinued in open court, with the various defendants and their counsel duly informed through notices of discontinuance.
The first suit, No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was instituted by Professor Awolola Awoniyi under the Freedom of Information Act 2011 against Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector-General of Police.
Another suit, No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, was instituted by Arc. Akerele Abiodun John, Ogun State Chairman of the Booth Party; Mr. Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun State Chairman of the Young Progressive Party, YPP; Mr. Ola Olamide Emmanuel of the Action Democratic Party, ADP; Mr. Ayinde Oluwayemisi Abiola, an ADP member; and Mr. Fesomade Gbadebo, a member of the Labour Party, LP.
The suit also listed Adeola, INEC and APC as defendants.
Odunaro said the other two discontinued cases were suits Nos. FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26, instituted by some of the aforementioned party officials and members, as well as Dr. Olufemi Soluade, Ogun State Chairman of the African Democratic Party, ADP; Mr. Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope, a member of the Labour Party; and Mr. Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun.
He said no reasons were publicly given by the litigants for discontinuing the cases.
However, Odunaro claimed that the litigants had been convinced of the merit of Adeola’s candidacy and had decided to support his ambition ahead of the 2027 election.
Adeola, according to his aide, welcomed the development and said it would allow him to focus on delivering what he described as the dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun State.
He added that the senator would continue his mobilisation and campaign across the state ahead of the 2027 general election.
