A French teenager, Clement L, has been arrested for allegedly plotting to kidnap France national team captain Kylian Mbappe.
The suspect allegedly plotted to kidnap the Real Madrid superstar following his participation for Les Bleus at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Le Parisien, Clement L has been charged in connection with a series of crimes and alleged kidnapping plots carried out between April 11 and August 19 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt and Santenay.
One of the alleged targets was 27-year-old Mbappe, who has a home in Paris where he stays when visiting France.
The alleged plot was not limited to Mbappe, as the gang reportedly targeted other footballers.
The group allegedly identified 26 individuals as targets for home invasions and kidnappings, including businesspeople and rappers.
Clement L is currently incarcerated at Villepinte prison in the Seine-Saint-Denis department over offences including pimping and armed robbery.
The 18-year-old allegedly used Snapchat to coordinate his network and continue criminal activities from behind bars.
A list of potential targets was reportedly discovered on phones seized from the teenager’s prison cell.
The suspect, who reportedly goes by the alias Lester Z, has since been placed in solitary confinement.
He was also placed in pretrial detention after being charged on August 21 in Nanterre.
Meanwhile, Mbappe has continued to feature for Real Madrid despite the reported kidnapping plot in his home country.
