FRSC launches nationwide special patrol, unveils 12 operations to curb road crashes

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a nationwide Zonal Special Intervention Patrol, introducing 12 code-named operations aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and improving compliance with safety regulations.

The special patrol operations will commence on July 20 across the Corps’ 12 Zonal Commands, with each zone implementing a tailored strategy to address specific road safety challenges within its jurisdiction.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, the FRSC said the initiative was approved by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as part of efforts to enhance road safety through intelligence-led enforcement, public enlightenment, stakeholder engagement, rescue preparedness and increased operational visibility.

The operations include Operation Fushin Zuma in Kaduna, Operation Ride Safe in Bauchi, Operation Shark Smile in Port Harcourt, Operation ABO (Safe Passage) in Lagos, Operation Sauka Lafia in Abuja, Operation Kasolayo in Ilorin, Operation Kwushi Ihe Mberede in Enugu, Operation Sanity in Osogbo, Operation Total Compliance in Benin, Operation Harbin Kunama (Scorpion Sting) in Yola, Operation Hadarin Kalangu in Jos and Operation Daidaita Loading in Zone 10.

The Corps Marshal said the intervention marks a shift from routine enforcement to targeted operations focused on tackling the major causes of road crashes across different parts of the country.

He said personnel would be deployed to highways, motor parks, loading points and other critical locations, while collaboration with other security agencies would be strengthened to improve enforcement and emergency response.

Mohammed warned motorists, commercial vehicle operators and fleet owners against violating traffic regulations, stressing that offenders would face firm but professional enforcement.

He, however, assured compliant road users that the operations were designed to protect lives and property rather than punish responsible motorists.

The FRSC urged Nigerians to avoid unsafe practices, including overloading and mixed loading, and encouraged motorists to report reckless driving and other dangerous road behaviours to the appropriate authorities.
