Spain winger Lamine Yamal missed his team’s first training session in New Jersey as preparations intensified for Sunday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Argentina.

Spain arrived in New Jersey on Wednesday, a day after defeating France 2-0 in the semi-finals, and held their first training session on Thursday at the New York Red Bulls’ training facility.

Yamal was absent from the session alongside Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro. However, according to AS, both players are still expected to be available for selection when Spain face Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium.

With the World Cup reaching its climax, both finalists are hoping to avoid any late injury setbacks that could derail their quest for the trophy.

Below is the latest injury update involving key players.

Yeremy Pino (Spain)

Crystal Palace winger Yeremy Pino suffered a collarbone injury during Spain’s group-stage match against Uruguay, initially raising fears that his tournament was over.

Subsequent X-rays revealed that Pino had escaped a fracture and instead sustained an acromioclavicular sprain. Despite the positive diagnosis, he has not played since the injury and is considered unlikely to return for the final.

Victor Munoz (Spain)

Liverpool’s new signing Victor Munoz has yet to make an appearance at the World Cup after suffering a calf injury before the tournament began.

The Spaniard later experienced another setback after being diagnosed with an additional muscular injury, ruling him out of Sunday’s final.

Facundo Medina (Argentina)

Argentina have also been managing a significant defensive concern following Facundo Medina’s calf injury.

The defender limped off during Argentina’s Round of 32 victory over Cape Verde and has not featured since. Having started three of Argentina’s opening four matches, Medina is now in a race against time to recover before the final.

Should Medina fail to regain fitness, Nicolas Tagliafico is expected to retain his place at left-back after impressing throughout Argentina’s knockout-stage run.

Although Yamal’s absence from Thursday’s training sparked concern among Spanish supporters, reports indicate that neither he nor Porro is expected to miss the biggest match of the tournament, giving coach Luis de la Fuente hope of fielding a near full-strength squad against Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina on Sunday.
