KAMPALA — Outspoken social commentator and businessman Frank Gashumba temporarily set aside his blistering public crusade against Pastor Robert Kayanja on Tuesday to celebrate a major milestone at home: his wife, Malaika Mutoni Gashumba, successfully graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Victoria University.
Malaika was conferred her degree in Human Resource Management during the university’s 10th graduation ceremony, held over two days at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo under the theme “The Future Is Here.”
The academic milestone offered a rare moment of celebration and togetherness for the headline-grabbing family, coming amidst weeks of intense public debate sparked by Gashumba’s relentless commentary on city pastors, religious exploitation, and claims of fake miracles.

Swapping online battles for academic robes, Malaika took to X shortly before taking the stage to reflect on her grueling academic journey:

In her celebratory message, she tagged her husband Frank Gashumba, her stepdaughter Sheilah Gashumba, and Victoria University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga for standing by her throughout the rigorous two-year program.
Malaika also shared details of her master’s thesis, titled “Employee Psychological Safety and Job Performance in the Public Sector of Uganda: A Case Study of KCCA Central Division.” The research investigated how emotional and mental well-being in the workplace directly impacts employee productivity within Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)—a timely study for Uganda’s public service sector.

A proud Frank Gashumba publicly showered his wife with praise, taking a break from his usual fiery broadcasts to applaud her dedication while extending gratitude to Dr. Muganga and Victoria University. Sheilah Gashumba equally took to social media to send warm congratulations to her stepmother.

While Frank Gashumba—Chairman of Mali Group and co-founder of Sisimuka Uganda—frequently dominates national news headlines with unsparing critiques of religious leaders and political figures, Malaika has intentionally maintained a lower public profile.
A development officer by profession, she has focused on her career and academic advancement while building a life with Gashumba following their traditional introduction (Kwanjula) in Sembabule District in May 2025.
For the Gashumba family, Tuesday wasn’t about public fights or pulpit drama—it was all about celebrating hard-earned academic success.
