KAMPALA — Police in Kasangati are investigating the alleged murder of a two-year-old girl whose body was recovered from a maize plantation in Kyetume, Gayaza, following a ransom demand of Shs10 million.
The victim, identified as Kyomuhando Dartiva Rosaries, went missing on October 27, 2026, prompting her mother, Atukwatse Lillian, to report the disappearance to police.
According to a police statement issued on Thursday, October 29, preliminary investigations indicate that the child disappeared while playing with neighbouring children.
The following morning, October 28, a ransom note demanding Shs10 million was reportedly discovered at her mother’s gate.
Police subsequently arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
One of the suspects, Muhumuza Joshua, a pedicurist, reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to a maize plantation in Kyetume, where the child’s body was recovered.
Muhumuza also reportedly identified his alleged accomplice, Amusuguti Florence, who has since been arrested.
Police said a mobile phone recovered from Muhumuza during a search contained a mobile telephone line allegedly used to demand the ransom.
Preliminary findings further indicate that Muhumuza was known to both the child and her mother, having previously worked for the mother as a pedicurist.
His residence was reportedly separated from the family’s home by a perimeter wall.
The child’s body was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and gather further evidence.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available, police said.
