During food production, small amounts of an allergen can unintentionally find their way into a food even when that allergen is not an ingredient. For example, a chocolate bar that does not contain nuts may be made on the same production line as products that do, allowing traces of nuts to remain despite cleaning procedures.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Similarly, ingredients such as flour, milk powder or sesame seeds may be unintentionally transferred through shared storage, transport or handling. In these situations, precautionary statements such as “may contain” help alert consumers to a potential residual risk.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The new Codex guidance aims to ensure such warnings are used only when that risk has been scientifically assessed and cannot be adequately controlled through good allergen management practices.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The statement stated, “The new Codex guidelines, adopted as an annex to the general standard for the labelling of pre-packaged foods (CXS 1-1985), establish a harmonized, science- and risk-based approach to the use of precautionary allergen labelling. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Rather than serving as a substitute for good manufacturing practices, such statements should be used only after food businesses have implemented appropriate allergen management measures and conducted a scientific risk assessment demonstrating that a residual risk from unintended allergen presence remains.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The recommendations are underpinned by scientific advice developed through seven joint expert consultations convened by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).” \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>““Together, they provide governments and the food industry with a common scientific framework to assess allergen risks and determine when precautionary allergen labelling is warranted, supporting more consistent decision-making while maintaining a high level of consumer protection.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“By promoting a harmonized approach to precautionary allergen labelling, the new Codex text aims to improve consumer confidence while providing greater clarity for food manufacturers and regulators. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“It complements existing codex standards on allergen declaration and food allergen management, including the code of practice on food allergen management for food business operators (CXC 80-2020),” it The concerned Secco president was arrested based on the farmer’s complaints and taken to Barra police station and because the case involved over a million dalasis, it has been moved to the police fraud squad,” the minister said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> He further stated that upon receiving this information, he instructed GGC to pay the 21 farmers involved and continue the prosecution of the accused person until his fate is decided by the court.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“The farmers will not lose a butut. Month-on-Month (MoM) by 0.02 percentage point to 15.91 percent in June 2026 from 15.93 percent in May.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The decline is coming after a three consecutive months rise in headline inflation rate since March 2026.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>However, despite the moderation in inflation rate, the food index increased by 0.56 percentage points to 17.52 percent in June from 16.96 percent in May 2026 due to the rate of change in the average prices of crayfish, pepper (fresh), tomatoes (fresh), green peas (dried), fresh pepper, yam flour (sold loose), water yam, beef, banana, cassava flour, cow pea, garri, irish potatoes, yam tuber, etc.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The NBS disclosed these in its latest Consumer Price Index, CPI, report.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The slight decline in inflation rate was primarily driven by a 0.9 percent decrease in the core basket to 15.92 percent in June 2026 from 16.82 percent in May 2026.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>NBS said: “In June 2026, the headline inflation rate was 15.91 percent, down from 15.93 percent in May 2026 and stood at 25.29 percent in the same month of the preceding year (June 2025).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Looking at the movement, the June 2026 Headline inflation rate showed a decrease of 0.02 percent compared to the May 2026 headline inflation rate.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“On a month-on-month basis, the headline inflation rate in June 2026 was 1.66 percent, which was 0.09 percent lower than the rate recorded in May 2026 (1.75 percent).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“This means that in June 2026, the rate of increase in the average price level was lower than the rate of increase in the average price level in May 2026.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>On food inflation, NBS said: “The Food inflation rate in June 2026 was 17.52 percent on a year-on-year basis and stood at 25.41 percent in the same month of the preceding year (June 2025).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“On a month-on-month basis, the Food inflation rate in June 2026 was 3.75 percent, up by 0.77 percent points from May 2026 (2.98 percent).”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Bureau mentioned that In June 2026, food inflation on a Year-on-Year basis was highest in Kogi (53.02 percent), Niger (43.83 percent), and Benue (40.83 percent).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>But Katsina (19.15 percent), Rivers (23.81 percent) and Imo (24.60 percent) recorded the slowest rise in food inflation on a Year-on-Year basis.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“On a Month-on-Month basis, however, June 2026 food inflation was highest in Katsina (16.82 percent), Kebbi (9.79 percent) and Niger (8.96 percent), while Speaking during the launch yesterday, Dr. Kisanja said the demonstration farm aligns with […]\nThe post Dr. Musoke Kisanja launches Four- Acre Model farm in Mityana to boost commercial agriculture  appeared first on Watchdog Uganda.","\u003Cp>The Senior Presidential Advisor on Agribusiness and Value Addition, Dr. Hillary Emmanuel Musoke Kisanja, has launched the SENTFARM Agribusiness Hub “Awaka”, a model demonstration farm in Ssebobo Village, Mityana District, as part of efforts to promote commercial agriculture and household wealth creation.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Speaking during the launch yesterday, Dr. Kisanja said the demonstration farm aligns with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s Four-Acre Model initiative, which seeks to transform smallholder farming into profitable commercial enterprises through modern and sustainable agricultural practices.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting modern farming, increasing household incomes, and accelerating socio-economic transformation through agriculture.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Owned by Robert Ssentamu and his wife, Racheal Birabwa Ssentamu, the demonstration farm showcases practical and affordable farming technologies, including mature coffee plantations, banana gardens, and coffee seedlings irrigated using recycled plastic bottles—a water conservation technique first demonstrated by President Museveni at his Kawumu demonstration farm.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Dr. Kisanja encouraged farmers to embrace the Four-Acre Model as a business-oriented approach capable of generating sustainable income even on small land holdings.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>He explained that under the model, farmers are encouraged to dedicate one acre to food crops, another to fruits, a third to high-value enterprises such as dairy farming, poultry, piggery or fish farming, while the remaining acre is reserved for pasture production. He added that households with less than four acres can also adapt the model to maximise productivity.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>“Many people have practised farming for years without escaping poverty because they have not treated it as a business. The President introduced the Four-Acre Model to help Ugandans maximise productivity and earn income throughout the year,” Dr. Kisanja said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The farm owners commended President Museveni for championing agriculture as a pathway to wealth creation, noting that the initiative inspired them to transition from operating a hardware business in Kampala’s Nakasero Market to commercial farming following the economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>While appreciating the government’s continued support for agriculture, the couple highlighted water scarcity and limited access to agricultural extension services as key challenges affecting productivity.
