The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Gombe State Command, has prevented property worth an estimated N20m from being destroyed in a fire at the staff quarters of the Gombe Media Corporation.
The fire broke out on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at a residential building within the staff quarters.
According to a statement by the FFS Gombe Public Relations Officer, ASF Muazu-Bashir Musa, the command received a distress call at 4:06pm and quickly dispatched an FFS 215 Multipurpose Water Tender from the ATM Fire Operation Base.
The fire truck left the base at 4:10pm and arrived at the scene at 4:25pm, after which firefighters began efforts to put out the fire.
The statement said, “The fire involved a residential building within the staff quarters and was suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.”
Firefighters eventually brought the fire under control and stopped it from spreading to other buildings within the premises.
The command said property worth about N6m was destroyed, while property estimated at N20m was saved.
“No casualty was recorded,” the statement said.
The operation was led by DSF Ali Kidams, with IF Adamu Babayo as the driver, alongside other firefighters.
Personnel from the FFS 256 Mega Park Fire Station, the Gombe State Fire Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps also assisted in the operation.
After putting out the fire, the firefighters inspected the premises and confirmed that there was no further danger before leaving the scene at 5:28pm.
The FFS commended those who quickly reported the incident, saying the early distress call helped the firefighters respond promptly.
The command urged residents to remain alert and report fire incidents immediately. It also advised people to have their electrical installations regularly checked and maintained by qualified professionals.
