The Gombe State Police Command has declared a zero-tolerance policy against traffic violations as it intensifies enforcement of road safety laws across the state.
The Command said the move followed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at restoring order on the roads and reducing avoidable accidents.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Command expressed concern over increasing disregard for traffic regulations, saying the development had contributed to congestion, obstruction of vehicular movement, road crashes and loss of lives and property.
The Command warned that all traffic offenders, including serving security personnel, would face sanctions in accordance with existing laws.
It added that vehicles found violating traffic regulations would be impounded, while offenders could be prosecuted where necessary.
The statement further directed all officers and personnel of the Command to maintain the highest level of discipline and professionalism during enforcement operations, stressing that no police officer was exempt from obeying road safety rules.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as other road users, to comply with traffic regulations, obey road signs, avoid reckless driving and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
Chuso said strict adherence to traffic laws remained essential to protecting lives, safeguarding property and ensuring smooth movement of vehicles across the state.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to enhancing public safety, maintaining order on the roads and promoting responsible road use among residents of Gombe State.
