The Gombe State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery, strengthening community relations and promoting people-centred policing across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, gave the assurance on Wednesday at a stakeholder engagement organised by the Command to mark the 2026 Customer Service Week at its headquarters in Gombe.
The event, themed “Going the Extra Mile,” brought together representatives of government ministries, traditional and religious institutions, civil society organisations, the Nigerian Bar Association, business community, transport unions, community leaders, students and youth groups, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), media organisations and members of the public.
Chuso said the Customer Service Week provided an opportunity for the Command to engage directly with members of the public, receive constructive feedback and identify areas requiring improvement in police service delivery.
He stressed that effective policing went beyond crime prevention and law enforcement, noting that professionalism, accessibility, accountability, responsiveness and respect for citizens’ rights were critical to building public confidence in the Police.
According to him, the theme, “Going the Extra Mile,” underscored the need for police personnel to exceed conventional expectations in responding to the legitimate needs and concerns of members of the public.
“Going the extra mile means doing more to meet the legitimate expectations of the people we serve. It also means building confidence and trust between the Police and the communities we are mandated to protect,” he said.
The Commissioner assured stakeholders that the Command would continue to strengthen community-oriented policing, improve its response to complaints and emergencies, enhance public communication and ensure that citizens’ feedback received appropriate attention.
He also appealed to residents to support the Police by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities and emerging security threats.
Chuso maintained that security was a shared responsibility, stressing that effective crime prevention could only be achieved through a strong partnership between the Police and communities.
The stakeholder engagement featured interactive discussions and feedback sessions, during which participants raised concerns and made recommendations on police service delivery, personnel welfare, community safety, accessibility and improved police-public relations.
The Command appreciated the stakeholders for their continued support and partnership, while reaffirming its determination to provide professional, responsive, accountable and people-centred policing services to residents of Gombe State.
