Former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, were among the dignitaries who attended the Lagos wedding reception of singer L.A.X, whose appearance has got Nigerians talking on social media.
The reception for the singer, whose real name is Damilola Afolabi, and his wife, Emmanuella, popularly called Ella, held on Sunday, November 1, at Victoria Island, Lagos. It was hosted by his father, Taiwo Afolabi, chairman of the SIFAX Group.
Video clips from the event showed the Jonathans seated among guests. Other personalities reported at the ceremony include former Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Chief (Mrs.) Bola Obasanjo, former Lagos State First Lady Abimbola Fashola, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and several traditional rulers.
Many social media users reacted warmly to the sight of Patience Jonathan, with some recalling her time as First Lady. One user described her as “the only empathetic First Lady we ever had”, while another wrote that she “represented us well”.
Another clip that went viral from the event showed Olori Mariam Ogunwusi, wife of the Ooni of Ife, in a brief exchange with Oba Saheed Elegushi. Elegushi was seen hugging her, which divided opinion online over royal protocol. A social media user claimed the exchange was linked to a missed visit after she gave birth, but this has not been verified.
The Lagos reception was the last in a series of events marking the union. L.A.X proposed in January 2026, and both families held an introduction ceremony in Warri, Delta State, in June. The couple later had a civil wedding in Malta on September 16 and an Islamic Nikkah on October 29.
Announcing the Malta ceremony on Instagram, the singer wrote: “Legally hitched to the love of my life, in the most beautiful city, Malta, you have our hearts.”
L.A.X, who was appointed executive director of SIFAX Logistics, a subsidiary of the family’s conglomerate, in April 2026, has yet to comment on the reactions trailing the Lagos reception.
