Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has assured the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC, of the state government’s support towards the completion of the National Integrated Power Project, NIPP, Lot 18 transmission line along the Ikot Ekpene–Ikot Abasi axis.
He gave the assurance when he received a delegation of the NDPHC, led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Jennifer Adighije, at Government House, Uyo.
Governor Eno said the state government would intervene to facilitate the completion of the 330kV transmission line, noting that the project would help improve electricity supply across Akwa Ibom and contribute to the development of the country’s power sector.
He said the state’s decision to support the project was driven by the need to expand access to reliable electricity and accelerate development across the state.
The NDPHC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Jennifer Adighije, commended Governor Eno for his willingness to intervene in the project, describing the gesture as a significant complement to the administration’s development efforts.
Adighije said that the project had been stalled by outstanding wayleave compensation owed to communities affected by the transmission line and appealed to the state government to intervene in the issue to enable the NDPHC to complete the transmission project for the benefit of residents and the country.
According to her, the project commenced about 20 years ago and has faced several challenges over the years, particularly those relating to compensation and community issues.
The NDPHC boss also congratulated Governor Eno on the establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission, AKSERC, and expressed the company’s readiness to collaborate with the state in developing an effective electricity market framework.
The NDPHC delegation included the Executive Director, Networks, Bello Bello; Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, Hon. Patrick Obaihiagbon; and former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nsima Ekere.
