Gov Lawal unveils plan to improve response to insecurity

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, says his administration is working to improve the response of security agencies to insecurity, particularly in areas facing persistent attacks.

Lawal identified poor road access and difficult terrain as major challenges slowing security response in some communities, especially along the Tsafe-Yankuzo axis.

The governor spoke on Monday during a media chat while responding to questions on the security situation in the state.

He said the government was improving road access and deploying technology, including drones, to strengthen surveillance and provide security agencies with timely information on security threats.

According to him, the Tsafe-Yankuzo road has been particularly difficult for security personnel to access during attacks, making its reconstruction necessary to facilitate faster intervention.

“That way the response time will be quicker. It will be much faster than you can imagine,” Lawal said.

He said the government was also using drones to monitor hard-to-reach areas, particularly during the rainy season when access to some locations becomes difficult.

Lawal acknowledged that attacks still occur in some parts of the state but maintained that the frequency of killings had reduced compared with previous years.

He identified Tsafe Local Government Area as one of the areas facing serious security challenges, citing the activities of suspected bandit leader Ado Alero and his gang.

The governor said the state government was “perfecting” its use of technology to obtain information on security threats and improve the response to attacks.
