Gov Mbah breaks silence on recent political violence in Enugu [VIDEO]

Daily Post about 3 hours 2 mins read

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has expressed concerns over report of violence surrounding a recent political gathering in the state, especially the shooting that left a citizen injured.

In a statewide broadcast on Monday, the governor sympathised with those who have been hurt, those who experienced fear, and the families affected.

He assured them that their safety and well-being matter to him personally.

He said having known how much Enugu people value peace and security they have worked so hard to establish in the state, such incidents could cause anxiety.

According to him, every citizen, whatever their political affiliation, must be able to exercise their political rights without fear or violence.

He added that the state government has made its position clear regarding allegations of involvement in the violence.

The governor further said the state’s fundamental responsibility is to protect lives, uphold the law, and ensure that justice is pursued without favour.

“I am deeply concerned by the reports of violence surrounding the recent political gathering in Enugu, particularly the shooting that left a citizen injured.

“In furtherance our preliminary findings regarding the incident, I expect the police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.

“Anyone found responsible for these acts will be held accountable through the proper legal process, regardless of their political connections,” he said.
