Gov Yusuf appoints new Sports Commission members, Kano Pillars board

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the appointment of members of the Kano State Sports Commission and a new Management Board for Kano Pillars Football Club as part of efforts to reposition sports administration and promote youth development in the state.

The appointments were announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Alhaji Tukur Babangida has been appointed Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission. Other members include a representative of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alhaji Balarabe Surajo (Wamban Karaye), Ibrahim Abba, Auwal Surajo, a representative of persons with disabilities, Sunusi Ismail, Special Adviser on Youth Affairs Sani Musa Danja, while Bashir Maizare will serve as Secretary.

Governor Yusuf also approved the appointment of Ahmad Musbahu as Chairman of the Kano Pillars Football Club Management Board.

The board includes veteran football administrator Abba Galadima, Sharu Inuwa Rabiu, Fatima Ibrahim Abubakar, Bashir Idris, Abubakar Isa Dandago, Salisu Muhammad Kosawa, while former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa was named Sports Ambassador.

Other members are the Chairman of Kano Pillars Fans Club, Jamilu Tijani Yamadawa, Engr. Usman Mustapha K/Na’isa, Murtala Umar and Kabiru Usman.

“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the appointment of members of the Kano State Sports Commission and the Management Board of Kano Pillars Football Club as part of ongoing efforts to reposition sports administration and youth development in the state,” the statement said.

The governor charged the appointees to utilise their experience and expertise to strengthen sports development across the state.

“Governor Yusuf charged the appointees to deploy their experience and expertise towards strengthening sports development, identifying and nurturing talents, and restoring the glory of Kano Pillars Football Club,” the statement added.

Expressing confidence in the newly constituted bodies, the governor said the appointments would herald a new phase for sports in the state.

“The Governor expressed confidence that the new leadership of the Sports Commission and Kano Pillars would usher in a new era of professionalism, excellence and achievement in the state’s sporting sector,” the statement said.
