Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi A. Sule, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in its efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse across the state.

The governor gave the assurance on Monday when he received the newly appointed Commander of Narcotics of the NDLEA, Nasarawa State Command, CN Saidu Daniel Saidu, and members of his management team during a familiarisation visit to Government House, Lafia.

Sule commended the commander for briefing him on the command’s activities and achievements since he assumed office, reiterating the state government’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with the agency to address the challenges posed by illicit drugs and safeguard public health and security.

He also acknowledged the importance of sustained collaboration between the government and law enforcement agencies in tackling drug-related offences and reducing substance abuse.

Earlier, Saidu expressed appreciation to the state government for its continued support and for providing an enabling environment for the NDLEA to discharge its statutory responsibilities.

The commander appealed to the government to support the establishment of a drug rehabilitation centre in the state, noting that such a facility would strengthen the treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration of people affected by substance abuse.

He also highlighted recent operational successes recorded by the command, including the seizure of illicit drugs and the destruction of cannabis farms in Awe and Kokona Local Government Areas.

Saidu assured the governor that the command would intensify enforcement operations, public enlightenment campaigns and community engagement initiatives to curb drug abuse and trafficking across Nasarawa State.

As part of the visit, the commander presented a War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) banner and copies of the NDLEA’s in-house magazine to the governor.
