Former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon on Saturday called for unity and respect for others despite religious and ethnic differences.

He made the call at the public presentation of three books in honour of General Abdulsalami Abubakar on the occasion of his 84th birthday, titled “The Legacy of a Statesman @ 84.”

General Gowon, who chaired the event, highlighted the importance of dignity in labour and the values of peace, democracy and good governance.

He urged young people to learn from and emulate Gen. Abubakar’s patriotism, commitment to justice and dedication to national unity.

The former Head of State said his respect for the celebrant prompted him to accept the invitation to chair the occasion.

Gowon described General Abubakar as a highly sought-after and credible mediator.
