Guarantee safety of NYSC members – MURIC tells Tinubu

Daily Post 3 minutes 2 mins read

Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has advised the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu to suspend the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, scheme until the current state of insecurity is tackled.

MURIC made this request in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Professor Isiaq Akintola, on Friday.

Akintola was reacting to the abduction of some prospective NYSC members who were later released few days after.

He also advised the Federal Government to discharge all the prospective NYSC members who were kidnapped, stressing that the protection of corps members is the responsibility of the government.

He maintained that the scheme should be suspended until the Federal Government can guarantee the security of the corps members across the country.

‎

“We cannot but conclude that the scheme’s greatest challenge is insecurity. We are of the opinion that our young ones do not deserve this punishment. Rather, the Federal Government has the responsibility, in loco parentis, to ensure their protection.

“However, in view of the apparent inability to do this, at least presently, we demand the suspension of the NYSC scheme until the Federal Government is able to take full control of the security situation in the country,” Akintola said.
