Two persons from Heipang District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State have been shot dead by suspected gunmen at a mining site around Kuru Jenta, near the boundary between Kuru Jenta in Jos South Local Government Area and Heipang.

The incident, according to community sources, occurred at about 11:30pm on Friday when the victims were at the mining site.

A member of the affected community, Weng Bulus, who confirmed the incident, condemned the killing and cautioned residents against engaging in mining activities at night.

Bulus alleged that the victims were at the mining site during the period of the curfew imposed by the state government, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid movements during restricted hours.

She cautioned residents against violating the curfew, particularly by engaging in night mining, saying such movements could expose them to security risks.

Bulus also condemned the attack and called on residents to take necessary precautions in view of the security situation in the area.

Also reacting, spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, BYM, Rwang Tengwong, condemned the killing and called on security operatives to go after the attackers.

Tengwong described the incident as unfortunate and urged security agencies to investigate the killing, identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

He also cautioned residents, particularly miners, against engaging in night mining and urged them to remain vigilant and comply with security measures put in place by the government.

Efforts to reach security operatives for confirmation of the latest incident were unsuccessful as of the time of sending this report.
