Arise News anchor, Rufai Oseni, has taken a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, over the constant attack and harassment of opposition voices in the country.
Rufai, who spoke on Wednesday during Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show,’ blasted APC’s treatment of the opposition, describing it as a danger to democracy.
According to him, if former President Goodluck Jonathan had treated APC badly when they were in opposition, they would not be in power today.
The broadcaster reminded Nigerians how APC leaders were allowed to insult Jonathan, call for protest, call for parallel government, and even call for his resignation, but Jonathan never arrested or silenced them.
"If Jonathan had treated the opposition badly, would they be in power today? Would APC be in power? Jonathan allowed them to talk, he allowed them to protest, he allowed them to even abuse him. That is democracy," Rufai said.
He said it is shameful that the same party that enjoyed freedom under Jonathan is now hunting opposition members for speaking.
Rufai warned that if the ruling APC continues to attack the opposition, the country will slide into a one-party state and anarchy.
He asked APC to tolerate criticism and focus on governance instead of fighting those who disagree with them.
