Sheikh Muniru Ssebintu, the director of the Halal Directorate at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), has hosted a delegation from City Abattoir, one of Kampala’s largest meat processing and slaughter facilities. The four-member delegation comprised Mr Ssenoga Umar, the facility’s Halal chairman; Sheikh Sururu Muhammad Mpiima, the mosque imam; Mr Abdunoor Lukanga, the secretary; and Mr Salim Usama, an enforcement officer.
The delegation paid a courtesy visit to Sheikh Ssebintu following his recent appointment as director of the Halal Directorate at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala. The visitors congratulated Sheikh Ssebintu on his appointment and pledged to work closely with him in implementing policies aimed at streamlining Halal operations.
Welcoming the delegation, Sheikh Ssebintu thanked the visitors for making time in their busy schedules to meet him. He said the directorate was open to stakeholders seeking guidance and services related to Islamic dietary requirements.
“My office handles delicate matters involving consumable products that touch human lives in line with Islamic dietary requirements. It will, therefore, always be open to anyone who wishes to access our services,” he said.
The meeting also featured discussions on Halal service delivery, challenges affecting operations and possible solutions.
Other UMSC officials who attended the meeting were Haj Issah Shaban, the National Halal Officer; Hajara Namuddu, the office administrator; Sserunkuuma Sulaiman, the field supervisor; and Hakim Kambugu, the field Halal officer in charge of Makindye Muslim District.
