Tragedy struck during a funeral ceremony in Ayeka, a town in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, following the sudden shooting of a traditional High Chief on Monday.

It was gathered that the incident occurred while the deceased’s colleagues were performing traditional funeral rites for him.

According to an eyewitness account, the situation became tense when a yet-to-be-identified carrier of firearms suddenly discharged, and the bullet hit the High Chief in the head, resulting in instant death.

Some of the locals who were present at the ceremony said the unfortunate incident was a result of accidental discharge.

The Spokesperson of Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, saying one suspect has been arrested.

DSP Jimoh added that a detailed investigation into the incident has commenced.
