An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, identified as Onoja Samuel, has landed in police net for allegedly firing gunshots in Kubwa market, Abuja.

The incident occurred on Monday.

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday, said the Kubwa Police Division received a distress call about a man armed with a pistol who was firing shots into the air at the market.

It was gathered that the suspect, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps, had allegedly gone to the market with a pistol following reports that some traders had assaulted his wife.

The officer engaged the traders in an argument before allegedly firing several shots into the air.

"During the arrest, a CZ pistol and seventeen (17) rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect," the FCT police spokesperson said in a statement.

The NSCDC officer is currently in police custody and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
