For more than 2,700 residents of Imogbara, Odo-Ijesha and Iperindo, the fourth Annual Community Medical Outreach by Segilola Resources Operating Limited, SROL, offered more than access to free medical care. Held on August 7 and 8, 2026, the outreach marked a new phase in SegunCare, SROL’s long-term healthcare programme, with expanded mental health support designed to help residents manage not only chronic illnesses, but also the emotional and social challenges that often accompany them. More than 2,700 residents in Imogbara, Odo-Ijesha and Iperindo received free healthcare during the 4th Annual Community Medical Outreach by Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL).
Held on the 7th and 8th August 2026, the outreach delivered essential services to host communities and marked a major milestone: the expansion of SegunCare, the company’s programme to provide long term treatment and support to community residents with noncommunicable chronic diseases, to include more comprehensive mental health support.
During the two-day outreach, residents benefited from 2762 medical consultations with qualified doctors; 81 residents scheduled for general and specialist surgical procedures; 1860 laboratory investigations; 563 eye examinations, 21 scheduled eye surgeries and 174 free prescription reading glasses distributed; Screening for hypertension, diabetes, HIV, Hepatitis B & C, tuberculosis and other health conditions; Health education and wellness sessions; seven chronic mental health issues identified, mental health rehabilitation and counselling; and 50 additional residents enrolled into SegunCare for ongoing management of chronic illnesses.
Deepening Mental Health Support
Building on the successful launch of SegunCare in 2025, this year’s outreach marks the next phase of the programme with the integration of more mental health support. Mental health diagnoses and treatment have always been part of SegunCare, but this year SROL deepened that support.
The expanded programme now includes counselling to help patients cope with the emotional toll of long-term diagnoses, rehabilitation support for residents affected by substance use, grassroots education campaigns to address cultural misconceptions about chronic disease and patient support groups to combat social isolation.
The expansion reflects SROL’s evolving approach to community healthcare, recognising that long-term wellbeing depends on supporting both physical and mental health.
Sustaining Care Beyond the Outreach
Since its introduction last year, SegunCare has continued to provide monthly medication, routine monitoring and long-term disease management for approximately 279 residents living with chronic illnesses.
Following this year’s outreach, an additional 50 beneficiaries have been enrolled in the programme, ensuring that more residents continue to receive care long after the annual outreach has ended.
Speaking on the impact of this year’s programme, Dr. Princewill Osuchukwu, Medical Services Manager at SROL, said, “Our vision has always been to ensure that quality healthcare is not limited by location or affordability. While the annual outreach provides immediate access to essential medical services, we recognise that lasting health outcomes require sustained care.
“Through SegunCare, we continue to support residents living with chronic illnesses long after the outreach has ended, and this year, by integrating more mental health support, we are taking another important step towards delivering more holistic healthcare for our communities.”
One of the beneficiaries of SegunCare, Adeshina Sherifat, who has continued to receive treatment through the programme since enrolling last year, described it as life changing.
She said, “Before SegunCare, buying my medication every month was very difficult because I couldn’t always afford it. Today, I receive my medication regularly, my health is monitored, and I feel much stronger. Knowing that the support continues even after the outreach has given me confidence and peace of mind.”
Also speaking on the programme, Hon. Soji Gbege, Chairman of the Iperindo Community Development Agreement (CDA) Committee, said, “For many families in our communities, quality healthcare remains expensive and sometimes out of reach.
“What has mattered most to us is not just what SROL provides during the outreach, but how consistently they have shown up for our communities year after year. That consistency is what has built trust between SROL and the people here, and it is what gives residents confidence that this support is not a one-time gesture.”
Since its inception, SROL’s Annual Community Medical Outreach has reached over 13,000 residents. It remains one of the company’s flagship initiatives focused on preventive care, specialist treatment, and long-term health management.
As SROL continues investing in healthcare, education, economic empowerment and infrastructure, the programme underscores the company’s commitment to creating lasting social impact beyond its mining operations.
