Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has debunked reports of receiving money from President Bola Tinubu for airport upgrade.
Makinde made this rebuttal on Tuesday during a North West town hall meeting in Katsina.
The governor was replying to the claims by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that the Federal Government gave the state N50 billion for the reconstruction of the Ibadan airport.
Wike had stated on Monday on Journalist Hangout, an interview programme on TVC, that the gesture was to compensate Makinde for supporting the president during the 2023 presidential election.
In response, Makinde said the claim is false, adding that the airport upgrade is being fully funded by the Oyo State Government
“My attention was called to Wike’s interview yesterday, where he said President Tinubu gave N50 billion to Oyo State to upgrade the airport to an international airport.
“It’s all a lie. I did not receive any money for the airport upgrade. The upgrade of the airport is being undertaken 100% from the Oyo State Government’s pocket,” the governor said.
